I will admit that I’ve had ups and downs with Rev, and it took a while to get where I am today with it, but I can say that I’m thankful for the job. If there’s no work available, you can’t make any money.
Once you get to higher levels, there are A LOT more projects put up throughout the week (although, on weekends it’s harder to find work, I agree with that) to choose from that have really good quality. Although it provides a number of transcription job opportunities, some people could not help but be wary about its legitimacy. The Rev Transcription is a legit online marketplace for you to make money from home offering transcription services. You covered just about everything I was wondering, and more. I'd say this is a fine second or third job if you just need a couple of dollars here and there, but it's definitely not a job that could pay any bills. If you have adequate experience, medical transcription can be a great option and tends to pay a little better than general transcription.
And, if you're looking for some immediate money, you can do things like online surveys with market research companies like Survey Junkie, or earn cash simply by searching the web using Swag Bucks' search engine, and get paid for things like watching videos and surfing the web.
The last thing we all want when exploring a possible side hustle is to get burned by scheming tricksters. As a revver your work is spot-checked with comments applied. How will I know if I am hired? You make your own schedule and select your preferred projects. I wouldn’t want to invest the time getting good at transcription and getting used to rev’s system just to arbitrarily have my account closed. Time guidelines are generous, even to brand new Rookies.

You can fit transcription and captioning work into your current schedule, or you can “stack” freelance jobs to come up with an overall strategy that combines Rev.com gigs with other work-at-home opportunities. Rev takes great care of their top-tier freelancers, those who consistently deliver high quality work on every single project they submit. Some of the audio files on rev are straight-up crap.

Rev usually has a range of jobs to choose from, with pay that varies based on difficulty. If that's not exactly your skill-level or you have difficulty getting hired, there are other opportunities to make money online.

MOST of Rev’s jobs are abysmal audio that falls far short of the ideal. Fair enough… but that does NOT make them a scam. To get started, you will need to go to their application page. So… what the reviewer is really saying, is that they have a bone to pick with Rev. Rev does surely come in the list of legit websites. Remember, this is per audio minute transcribed, not per minute worked! Flexible schedule and the ability to pursue. More than 3 unclaims is a sign that the file is probably quite difficult to transcribe. One grader may say you did perfect and then another say you did very poorly even though their comments say things like, "great job" but then give you a 1 out of 5 score because of some perceived flaw.

Rev has some things going for it. At any other company, the worst that would happen is they’d return it to you and ask you to finish the last few sentences–assuming it was relevant. It’s helpful for other who are doing their research and trying to find a way to earn an income from home. Your pay rate at Rev depends on the job you do. It’s good that you are able to accept that and move on to something more copacetic to your strengths.
But I've had some pretty cool ones to transcribe. There is an online queue of work, and it's just a matter of getting in there before anyone else to claim a file. If a project has too much in it that you don’t understand or you don’t feel confident it’s accurate, unclaim it and look for another one to work on. Rev has a physical office in downtown San Francisco. Rev is an out and out virtual (totally online based) transcription/ translation company and primarily does business for clients providing Transcription, Video Captioning and Translation services.

If you’re good at proofreading your own work, typing quickly, and research, you can do fairly well. Poor audio quality, always changing style guide, No way to contest improperly graded jobs, no warning when they terminate your account. In fact, a lot of people rave working as Rev Transcriptionist because unlike other transcription companies, it does not require minimum hours or amount of work you need to accomplish either in a week or a month. But before I go about what I’ve found out about Rev and what I think about it, I would just like to put out this disclaimer for everyone to see. Like you said, it is totally legit, and there’s opportunity to hone skills and increase pay over time.
The author claims a 3:1 turnaround makes it worthwhile ignoring the fact that 3:1 is only under ideal circumstances: good audio, 1 to 2 speakers without a lot of crosstalk, no research required for terms or names, etc. Personally, I start the project over entirely 99% of the time because it’s not done properly in the first place. Rev transcription is not going to make you rich. I was using a laptop but I wouldn’t recommend this long-term as laptops aren’t the most comfortable typing experience.
However, if you’re looking for a job that’s flexible and pays well, Rev may not be the best option for you.
